Special Interest Activities

Some of the attractions within 5 minutes to half an hour of the Park, that are available to Visitors include the world famous Pukeiti Rhododendron Gardens, Pouakai Wildlife Reserve, Mt. Egmont/Taranaki National Park, Golf Clubs, and all the numerous attractions offered by the City of New Plymouth.

MT. EGMONT/TARANAKI
With over 140 km of walking tracks in the Mt. Egmont/Taranaki National Park, a wide variety of Trekking opportunities are available. From one day walks to up to 4 day overnight Treks are able to be put together for those that like the Great Outdoors. For those that require an experienced guide to take them to the summit of the Mountain, Hookner Park can arrange this for you. Being the closest Park to the Mt. Egmont/Taranaki National Park, Hookner Park is an ideal base to experience all that the area has to offer. For those that wish to partake of over night and longer Treks, Hookner Park offers a Car minder and Ferry service to the Mountain area.
HAPPY CHADDY'S CHARTERS
Cruise the Sugar Loaf Islands in an old English Lifeboat. Enjoy the thrill and excitement of launching from the boat shed on rails in the true tradition of English lifeboat. 1 hour cruises to the Seal colonies in their natural habitat on the Sugar Loaf Islands.
CITY FORESHORE
New Plymouth's popular costal walkway covers 7km from the Lee breakwater at Port Taranaki, to the mouth of the Waiwhakaiho river. Passing en route the Aquatic Centre, Puke Ariki MUseum and Library complex, and Fitzroy Beach. The City's millennium project, a 45 metre high Len Lye sculpture, "wind wand", is situated on the walkway close to the Museum and Library complex, and central business area of New Plymouth.

PUKE ARIKI
Visit New Plymouth's new combined Museum and Library. Open in June 2003, Puke Araiki is believed to be one of the finest provincial Museums ever built in New Zealand. Features the history of early settlement in the province of Taranaki.
